Clank

Tap a tag. Block distractions.

Tap a tag and the apps you chose go quiet. Tap it again when you are done. No willpower, no timers to dismiss, just a walk to wherever the tag lives.

Free and open source · Works with any NFC tag · iPhone

How it works

Tap to block distractions. Tap again to unblock.

Clank uses Apple’s Screen Time to block apps on the device itself. Nothing leaves your phone, and Apple never tells Clank which apps you picked.

Pair any NFC tag

A sticker, a fob, a tag on your keys. Clank remembers its hardware id and nothing else.

02

Pick what pulls you away

Choose the apps and websites that eat your evenings. Group them into modes for work, sleep, or being present.

Tap to clank. Tap again to unclank.

Hold the tag to your phone and the apps go quiet. Only the same tag brings them back.

Features

Small app. Firm boundaries.

Everything you need to make a distraction cost a walk across the room, and nothing you do not.

Schedules

Clank on a rhythm

Evenings, mornings, the work block. A schedule starts a mode on its own, and a tag tap still ends it early.

Strict mode

Cannot be deleted while clanked

iOS refuses to delete or install any app until you unclank. That includes Clank itself.

Modes

One tag, many moods

Be present, deep work, sleep. Switch the mode before you tap.

Shortcuts

“Clank my phone”

Siri, Shortcuts and the Action button start a clank, with an optional timer.

Privacy

Nothing leaves your phone

No account, no server, no analytics. Apple hides your picks behind tokens even from Clank.

Emergency

Five escape hatches

Lost the tag? Five emergency unclanks. Use them wisely.

The phone is not the problem. The distance to it is.
