What Clank stores on your device

• Your modes. Names, icons, and app and website selections. On iPhone and iPad, selections made through Apple's Screen Time picker are stored as opaque tokens. Website addresses you type separately are stored as text. On Android, selected apps are stored by package name.
• Your schedules and their on or off state.
• Your sessions. When a clank started and ended, and which mode it used. This powers the Activity tab.
• Your paired tag. The hardware identifier of a paired NFC tag and whether you stored a launch link on it, or a one-way hash used to recognize your paired QR tag.
• Settings such as strict mode, Apple Watch controls and the number of emergency unclanks left.

This data lives in Clank's private storage. On iPhone and iPad, an App Group also shares state with Clank's own extensions for blocking, schedules, widgets and Shortcuts. Clank does not upload this data or sync it through an account.

Camera and QR tags

Clank uses the camera only when you open its QR scanner and allow camera access. It reads the QR code on your device. Clank does not save camera photos or video, upload camera images, or access your photo library.

When you create a QR tag, Clank generates a random code on your device. After pairing, it stores a hash of the code rather than the printable code itself. If you choose Print tag or Share PDF, Clank creates a PDF containing that code and passes it to the printer, app or destination you select. Temporary export files are removed after use. Any copies you save or share remain under your control; anyone with a copy can use it as the same tag.

Apple Watch

If you use the Apple Watch companion, Apple's WatchConnectivity framework exchanges status and control requests between your paired iPhone and Watch. The status includes the active mode name, clanked state, session times, Screen Time authorization status and whether watch unclanking is allowed. The Watch and its complication keep a local copy so they can display the last received status. Your app selections and full session history are not sent to the Watch. This communication does not use a Clank server.

What Clank never does

• It does not create accounts or ask for an email address.
• It does not upload your app selections, settings or session history to us.
• It does not use analytics, crash reporting, or advertising libraries.
• It does not sell your data or track you across apps and websites.

Blocking permissions

On iPhone and iPad, Clank uses Apple's Screen Time frameworks to enforce your choices on the device after you grant permission. On Android, Clank's Accessibility service identifies the foreground app and, for website rules, reads visible browser address fields. It does not read or store page contents. These checks happen on your device.

You can revoke Screen Time or camera access in your device's Settings. On Android, you can also turn off Clank's Accessibility service. Revoking access stops the features that need it.

Retention, backups and deletion

Clank keeps local settings and session history until you reset or remove the app. While unclanked, choose Settings → Reset all data to clear the app's modes, schedules, sessions, paired tag and settings. Deleting the app also removes its local data. Remove the Watch companion to remove its local status cache.

On iPhone and iPad, app data may be included in your normal device backup under your Apple backup settings. Restoring a backup can restore that data. Android backup is disabled for Clank. Resetting Clank does not erase earlier device backups or QR PDFs you exported; manage those through the backup service or destination you used.

The launch link and this website

If you choose "Make your tag open Clank" on iPhone, the app writes goclank.com/tap onto your NFC tag. A supported universal link can open Clank directly. If the link opens in a browser, our hosting provider receives a normal website request, including your IP address, the time and browser type. The link does not contain your tag identifier, app selections or session history. Android uses a clank://tap app link.

This website sets no cookies and runs no analytics. It loads the Outfit typeface from Google Fonts, which means Google receives the request for the font file. The site is hosted on Expo's EAS Hosting, which runs on Cloudflare; both may keep standard server logs.

Support messages

If you email us, we receive your email address and the information you choose to send. We use those messages to answer your request and keep them as needed to resolve the issue and maintain support records. Do not send your QR tag, private app selections or other sensitive information unless it is needed for your request. You can ask us to delete support correspondence by emailing the address below.

Children

Clank is not directed at children under 13. The app does not collect personal data from its users.

Changes

If this policy changes, the new version is published on this page with a new effective date.
