Clank support

For iPhone, iPad and Apple Watch

Email hello@dctr.dev for help. Include your device model, system version, Clank version from Settings and the steps that caused the problem. Please leave out your QR tag and other private information.

Get started

  1. Allow Screen Time access when Clank asks. You can also grant access from Clank's Settings.
  2. Pair a compatible NFC tag on a supported iPhone, or pair a QR tag on iPhone or iPad.
  3. Choose a mode and the apps or websites you want to block.
  4. Scan your paired tag inside Clank to clank. Scan the same tag again to unclank.

You need to pair a tag before starting any clank or enabling a schedule. After pairing, you can also start a timed clank without scanning. Timed sessions end automatically; schedules can end at a time or when you scan your tag.

Use a QR tag without NFC

In Settings, open Pair a tag and choose the QR option. On iPad, Clank shows QR setup directly. Choose Create a QR tag, then Print tag or Share PDF. Print the PDF or display it on another device, then choose Scan to pair and scan that copy.

Use Clank's own camera scanner for pairing, clanking and unclanking. Scanning with Apple's Camera does not change your clank. A copy or photo of the paired QR code works as the same tag, so keep copies out of reach too.

My NFC tag will not scan

Use a compatible NFC sticker, card or keychain, and hold it near the top of your iPhone while Clank's scanner is open. Most bank and transit cards cannot be read by apps. If your device cannot read NFC tags, use a QR tag instead. iPad and the Apple Watch companion do not scan NFC tags.

Only the tag you paired can change your clank. Unclank before replacing or removing it. To remove a tag, first turn off any enabled schedules.

Apps are not blocked

Check that Clank's Settings shows Screen Time access as Allowed, that your active mode contains the apps or websites you intend to block, and that the home screen says you are clanked. In a block mode, selected apps are blocked. In an allow mode, the selected apps stay available.

If Screen Time access was removed in the device's Settings, allow it again in Clank. If blocking still does not match your mode, contact us with the steps you tried.

I need to unclank

Scan your paired tag inside Clank, or wait for a timed session's end. If your tag is missing, Settings → Emergency unclank can end a clank. Five emergency unclanks are included.

Strict mode restricts installing and deleting apps while clanked. Unclank before changing strict mode, replacing your tag or resetting your data.

Apple Watch controls

The companion shows the last status received from your paired iPhone. Open Clank on the iPhone and tap Refresh on the Watch if it is out of date. Controls need a live connection to the iPhone.

To allow the Watch to end a clank, turn on Unclank from Apple Watch in Clank's iPhone Settings while unclanked. The Watch cannot scan NFC or QR tags.

Your data

Clank does not require an account. Your modes, settings and history are stored on your device. While unclanked, Settings → Reset all data clears the app's data. Read the privacy policy for details about camera access, QR exports, backups and the Apple Watch companion.
